Buffalo live in large herds of dozens to hundreds of animals, with strong social bonds. When threatened, they actively defend each other, even against lions.

Older males have heavy, curved horns that merge into a "boss" (shield). Due to its unpredictability, the species is considered one of Africa's most dangerous animals.
